Taiping

The hill is 1036m above sea level, but the distance by road from the foot of the hill to the peak is 10.2km. Did you know that there are 92 hairpin turns up the hill? If my arithmetic is not too rusty, that averages 9 sharp turns for every km, which was a nerve wrecking experience. Imagine negotiating a hairpin turn while climbing a slope of 45 degrees! And all this is done in a jeep which has seen better days! Salute to the jeep drivers!

Feast your eyes on the view:

A majestic view
God is Great! The palm fronds must have been about 200 metres away

Taiping from the hilltop

THE FLORA:

Calms and soothes the soul!
A walk to remember..the canopy walk

View from the look out tower framed by the arc

(On the way down, proof that it was no limousine ride! I salute the 88 year old Singaporean grandma who took the jeep ride down with us without so much as batting an eyelid)

Taiping Zoo and Night Safari.
Although the Night Safari is the only one of its kind in Malaysia, we did not make that trip cos many remarked that you don't get to see much in the night light. If you get to Taiping, don't miss a trip to the zoo.. Missed a lot of animals cos the digicam battery ran out!

The FAUNA:

The beautiful panther

(Spot the mountain goat)

Macaws

Magnificent seladang

The orang utan taking a break, c'est la vie!

Flamingoes on the pond

Didn't know that white rhinos existed!

The shy hippopotamus

Time was running out so the trip to the Perak Museum was short and sweet with just pics taken in the vicinity of the museum. Too bad cos Taiping Museum is the oldest in Malaysia.

Kamalodge where we stayed during our Taiping break

The lodge reflected in the swimming pool

The teeny bops couldn't resist a close-to-midnight dip!

Salam Anne,

Happy New Year!

Nice pics... esp. the hydrangeas, hmm...I love hydrangeas.

Taiping is my late father's maternal hometown and I love Taiping for its fine weather and good street food. Ah, there I go again! Food, food and food!

Thanks for sharing!

Aunty Anne,
Finally! Welcome back! Hmmm...so you went hiding in the hills, eh? Great pix, love. And who took care of Bruce while you were gone? purrr...meow!

Salam Ateh Lili,

Taiping is my first choice for a cool and relaxing short break! Even then, it's been ages since we last went, that time Ayang,(my one and only) was just a baby. We were chased from our picnic spot at Taiping lake Gardens by hungry monkeys!

till some more pics to come...but forgot to take any while tucking into Kuetiaw DOLI!

No problem...I love food too, esp baking...hot muffins today!

Hi Cat!

Thank you! So I did! The hills were cool and did good things for the soul, especially since it's been HOT HOT HOT 3 weeks.

Watch out for some more photos..

Bruce stayed home with PA, who was too lazy to move, so we left them both behind!

Salam anne,

If there is one place in Malaysia that I really want to visit but haven't been to, it is Taiping. Read so much about it but yet never had the opportunity to go. Maybe on my next holiday break. And must go up Maxwell Hill too. If an 88-yr old grandma can do it, why can't I, ye tak?

Lovely pics you have here... all of them. Special mention to the one with 4 young ladies in front of the train. So coool...

Hello Anneaziz, Wow! Taiping and Maxwell Hill.
Beautiful gambars you took. You sure a great photographer and love the animal pics, not to mention of the ahemmm SYT's too, ha ha.

My last trip up Maxwell Hill was wayyyy back in the 70's. Used to bring my girlfriends up Penang and Maxwell hills.
And I love Taiping Lake Gardens.
I wonder whether that old hotel still there? Da lupa the name.
Oh ya, love the poh pia there those days under that big tree.
Have fun Anne, and stay beautiful, Lee.

Salam Oldstock,

Don't miss a trip to Taiping. Talk about an old town and Taiping comes to mind, the first railway line from Port Weld (now known as Kuala Sepetang)to Taiping, The Ghee Hin and Hai San's fight over the the tin mines, Long Jaafar and Ngah Ibrahim..well worth a trip.

And don't let the 88 yr old grandma say that I"ve been there, but Oldstock hasn't!

And TQ from the 4 SYT, Uncle Oldstock made their day! COOL is their middle names!

Hello Lee,

Used to bring your gfs up there huh? ni Wah wah wah! You must have been some romeo!

BTW the hotel is still there...with a view of the lake right? Can't remember the name but I'm sure you won't want to spend the night there now...looks positively haunted! Must be the spirit of the SYT you brought there, but said goodbye to!

Jgn marah! Suka gurau!

Salam Pakmat

The pics were nice cos the scenery was nice! TQ

What i like most about Taiping is its undulating terrain. ASTAR with the paddy fields, beautiful as they are, is really flat.

Ypu should take a trip again, with a good and thick book, and just suck in the view.
